Turmeric: The Ultimate Healer

Turmeric or Haldi, is widely used in household activities in the Indian culture and is an important spice in most Indian recipes.

But what makes Organic Wellness Turmeric a unique spice?

Which active ingredient does it contain which makes it an ultimate healer?

It is Curcumin.

Curcumin is added in turmeric. It has powerful anti-inflammatory effects and is a very strong antioxidant.

Organic Wellness Turmeric Powder comes with 5% Curcumin content, more than most available variants.

The natural Curcumin content of turmeric is not that high. It’s around 3%, by weight. Therefore, additional Curcumin is required for absorption of Turmeric.

It would be very difficult to reach these levels just using the turmeric spice in your foods.

Therefore, to experience the full effects, turmeric should contain significant amounts of curcumin. But what are these effects?

Turmeric has been used in Asia for thousands of years and is a major part of Ayurveda, Siddha medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine and Unani.

An active agent Curcumin present in the Turmeric plays a pivotal role in repairing the damage your body goes through.

The antioxidants effect of turmeric appears to so powerful that it may stop your liver from being damaged by toxins.

While turmeric is a flavorsome spice that is nutritious to consume, it has also traditionally been used in Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine to treat inflammatory conditions, skin disease wounds, digestive ailments and liver conditions.

The benefits are really impeccable and unlimited.

*Awed by a movie star* Damn, I wish I could look like that

Flat stomach, thigh gap, toned legs

6 pack abs, biceps, muscular shoulders

We all look at these gorgeous people in movies, magazines, social media and have this dire need to look like them. Aren’t we fooled? Nobody can look like that. Unless you starve yourselves. Yes, that is what they do. They lose weight temporarily for that particular scene of the movie. They’re on juice diets, fruit diets for a week or so. Instead of trying to attain bodies which are not possible, why not focus on staying healthy and fit? Just drink enough water and exercise daily.

Here’s a trick. All you need to do is take out 20 minutes thrice a week. First, do jumping jacks for 30 seconds (as fast as you can) then just walk at the same place for 1 minute 30 seconds. In 20 minutes, this routine can be done 10 times. Violà! Calories burnt. The logic behind this is simple. Animals, for instance, a tiger doesn’t do any exercise to remain fit. But when they hunt, they run at full speed for a couple of seconds. And the deer tries to run away as fast as it can from the tiger. So we don’t need to work out for hours to remain fit. Leave that to the body builders and fitness enthusiasts.

“I promise to exercise daily and eat healthy.”

Almost everybody says this on the 1st of January. That’s right, it is only said but not done. It is not that easy. How can you eat healthy when there are so many delicacies to devour on? How about rephrasing it to “I’ll cut down my consumption of junk food”. It will be easier. Or you can just add a little nutritional supplement to your regular diet. For example, sprinkling Moringa Powder in your salad or smoothie, taking Ashwagandha on a regular basis (for over all well being), drinking green tea, et cetera. You can switch to Quinoa which is a replacement for rice. It has high protein, iron and manganese content. Many people are not sure about how to cook the grain.

So here’s a recipe.

1. Wash 1 cup of Quinoa properly.

2. Cook in a pressure cooker with double the quantity of water i.e. 2 cups.

3. Let the pressure build in the cooker, then lower the flame and let it cook for 10 minutes.

4. Take a pan, add 1 tbsp of ghee (clarified butter), 1 chopped onion, 1 chopped tomato, green chillies and peas. You can add any vegetables of your choice.

5. Add 1 tsp of Garam Masala (blend of Peppercorns, Cloves, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Cardamom, Bay Leaf and Cumin) and 1/2 tsp of Amchoor powder (dried mango powder).

6. Add the boiled Quinoa.

7. Add salt as per taste.

8. Let it cook for 2 more minutes.

9. Serve and garnish with coriander or mint leaves.

Wish you a very Happy New Year!

Not a fan of drinking milk with Turmeric? Here’s a solution.

I am sure at some point of our lives, our mothers must have forced us to drink turmeric mixed in milk. But not all of us will like its taste. Turmeric has many benefits which is why it has been a part of Indian tradition. To take full advantage of this spice, it should have a good amount Curcumin, say 5%. It the main ingredient of Turmeric. The spice also has anti-inflammatory properties. It helps to prevent cancer, control cholesterol, boost immunity, fight depression and relieve arthritis. It also helps to lose weight and works as an excellent facial mask to get rid of marks, wrinkles and tanning. No wonder it is called the Queen of Spices.

But drinking turmeric in milk is a pain if you are not accustomed to its taste.

So what is the solution?

Turmeric Capsules. That too, vegetarian capsules. All one has to do is swallow 2 capsules per day without even tasting the powder.

Helpful Tip: Whenever you feel you’re going to catch a cold, take 2 capsules of turmeric. Chances are you’ll be as fit as a fiddle.

Moringa: The All-in-One Leaf

How often does a doctor tell us, “You have a deficiency of these vitamins. I suggest you take these pills once everyday for 2 months and then come back for a check up.” What if there was a simpler way? Why take pills unnecessarily which may or may not have side effects. Let’s go back to out traditional Indian roots to find the answer.

Moringa leaves.

Or popularly known as drumstick leaves. Yes, those sticks that we occasionally remove from our sambhar. That must have rung a bell. The leaves are more beneficial than the sticks. It is the best nutritional supplement. You must be wondering if it’s so nutritious why isn’t it used or widely popular? Well, it tastes bitter. So you can’t cook the leaves and eat it as a salad. But there is an alternative. There’s no need to consume many leaves altogether. You can get the leaves in powdered form. All you have to do is add 1 tsp in your yogurt, smoothie, salad, curry etc. It will no longer taste bitter and you will also get your required nutrients. Sounds easy enough?

Let’s erase the stigma of Leprosy

Leprosy is a disease which affects the skin, eyes, respiratory and the nervous system. There are many people in India, China and Africa who are still suffering from this deadly disease. They are restricted from employment opportunities and their development is hindered. As per popular belief, it is considered highly contagious. But there were two people who despite this belief worked for their betterment and proved this belief to be wrong.

Murlidhar Devidas Amte (a.k.a Baba Amte) and Sadhana Amte spent most of their lives for the empowerment of these people. They founded three Ashrams for the treatment of the leprosy patients in Maharashtra. Their first hospital was under a tree. Even their children dedicated their life helping the marginalised sections of the society.

These are the unrecognised heroes of our country. It is sad that magazines and newspapers don’t publish about such heroes often.

It is not Yoga; it is Yog

With International Yog  Day coming up, everybody is all set to practice different aasans  just for this very day, and then forget it until the next International Yog Day. Also, why say “Yoga”? That is not how it should be pronounced. It should be pronounced and written as “Yog”. It is the western part of the world, which has changed it. Being Indians, we are great at aping what others do. Similarly, Lord Ram has become Lord Rama. These nouns are not a part of the English language. They are Sanskrit terms. Let us at least uphold the sanctity of this ancient language as well as our country.

Coming to Yog, we all know how important it is and why one should practice it.  However, it is emphasised that it should be done early in the morning, like at 5 or 6 am. This is where we think, “I cannot get up that early.” If you can’t, it is perfectly alright. You can practice it anytime, provided you have an empty stomach. There are no hard and fast rules.
