Awakening Indians: An initiative by Organic Wellness

“Awakening Indians” started as an internship project, but today it is one of the main projects for Organic Wellness.

As we are associated with the farmers, the idea behind Awakening Indians is to educate their children, as their family means our family. A typical day here does not mean rigorous lessons in the classroom. Our day consists of drawing, reading, writing, watching cartoons and playing sports. These activities develop creativity, focus and thinking ability. They are also fun ways of learning. These kids are extremely enthusiastic, punctual and avid learners. You will not believe how many things you can end up learning by spending time with them!

Which energy are you? Wind, fire or water?

Most of us prefer taking medicines, which provide instant relief. But some of those medicines have side effects in the long term. But we usually deal with it by “yeah we’ll see” or “haan yaar dekha jayega“. Similarly Ayurveda has pros and cons as well. It works slowly. But it makes the immune system very strong. The first image that comes to our minds when we speak of Ayurveda is different kinds of herbs. It is important to understand that an Ayurvedic lifestyle includes exercising and a healthy diet, not just taking herbal supplements. Don’t expect Tulsi to work if you eat pizza almost every other day in front of the television. Things don’t come that easy after all. It’s a balance of all the body energies. According to Ayurveda, every person has a different energy or dosha. It has a physical and an emotional aspect.

First, Vata, which is Sanskrit for wind, takes care of breathing and circulation. It enhances creativity and keeps the body active. This person is often stressed and fears to take a different path.

Second, Pitta, which is Sanskrit for fire, takes care of digestion and maintains the body temperature. This kind tends to be hard working and driven but can lose their temper easily.

Third, Kapha, which is Sanskrit for water, boosts the immune system and nourishes the organs. People dominant with this energy are supportive and loving but often insecure and lazy.

Have you found your dosha yet?

Traditional home remedies can do wonders!

We all remember our grandparents or parents reminiscing, “when we were young, we spent most of our time outside playing. There were no computers or video games” or “we were much more active and healthier”. Well, they are not wrong. With the advancement in health and medical facilities, new diseases have started spreading. Certain traditional remedies can never be replaced. People in India always had a habit of waking up with the sunrise, exercising in the morning, drinking 3-4 glasses of water, et cetera. There was some or the other logic behind it. Before, if somebody caught a cold, there were simple home remedies which helped to feel better. For example having a spoon of honey and ginger, drinking herbal tea or kada (which is mixture of different herbs or decoction). Before sleeping, people drank a glass of hot milk mixed with turmeric powder instead of cocoa to boost immunity. Turmeric has many benefits. It can be applied on the wounds, and it helps in reducing inflammation and pain. It also tackles diabetes and arthritis. It’s good for the skin a well. Sounds like a magical all-rounder spice to me.

Yes! Organic Farming can be profitable for the farmers

When it comes to organic farming, one of the major questions that generally pops up is “Can it profitable for the farmers?” or “What benefit will the farmers get?”. Let’s imagine the future. If more and more consumers start purchasing organically grown produce, both the consumers and the farmers will land in a win-win situation. Consumers will be able to maintain a healthy lifestyle and famers will definitely earn a good living. Not only that, but organic farming is actually more convenient in practice than the conventional one. Think of all the money that will be saved if pesticides and other chemicals are not used. Now let’s come to the main problem that all the farmers face which is water shortage especially in the developing countries. The monsoon season is irregular. So many areas face droughts. How do we solve this? By following Organic Farming of course! Organically farmed soil has more water retaining capacity which results in higher yields. There was time when agriculture was practiced when these chemicals did not even exist. Mind you, there were less health problems back then.

To make life even better for the farmers, Organic Wellness shares it’s wealth with all the farmers, after all, they are the ones who are contributing the most. Not only that, but their families are also our families, whether they need health care or education facilities for their children.

Let’s take the organic way!

Mankind has managed to create everything except land. Till the time we figure that out, we need to ensure that the land we currently have is not polluted. After all, only 29% of the earth’s surface is land. The remaining is just salt water, which is difficult to harness. Doesn’t this make us responsible for using the remaining land judiciously? The conventional agricultural method, followed by majority of the farmers, involves usage of fertilisers and pesticides in heavy dose. This degrades the soil quality and formation. Funny thing is, we all know the facts, the do’s and don’ts, still we end up following the same system. We are simply used to it. Plus, bringing a change means investing more money and time, which none of us are ready for. This happens because our focus is on short term rewards rather than long term rewards. If we change our perspective to long term, both the environment and the consumers can benefit by switching to organic farming. Organic farming encourages the growth of flora and fauna. The soil will absorb and retain all the nutrients and minerals which will in turn be soaked by the vegetables. We as consumers will then get the experience to take a bite from an apple free of any ill effect. Chemicals do the opposite. In a few years, after their excessive and continuous use, the soil will become barren.

It’s all on us and the path we choose.

Organic Produce is for the rich-A big myth

Isn’t that the statement that we say to everybody who is in favour of organic farming? Many more like “It cannot produce enough for the entire country”,”It is time consuming”,”Farmers don’t really reap any benefit”, et cetera are constantly thrown around. We are content when we go to the store and pick up the conventional turmeric powder from the shelf rather than picking up the packet which says “USDA Organic” because it is relatively less expensive. But we do not know if that turmeric is pure i.e. whether it has been adulterated or not. The reason the other packet says USDA Organic is because it is unadulterated. It gives us our money’s worth. The other packet, which we feel happy to buy is actually harmful for us. I am sure you must be feeling cheated by the conventional packet now. Well, it’s time to end that relationship by loosening our purse strings a little. After all, a healthy life is what we desire.

Coming to how farmers will reap benefit, Organic Wellness will make sure that all the profits are shared with everyone in the chain. Most of the corporations are making profit. But who gets to spend all the profit? The top management level of course. In the OW family, everyone is a partner. The mission is to grow but also to create assets for the farmers and employees. They are the ones who should get the most returns. A quality life is ensured for everyone who is associated with the name Organic Wellness.

Let’s save the planet by buying organic

Most of us are complaining about the poor air, water and soil quality in the metro cities. Yet, we are exceptionally proud to reside in these so called “metro cities”. Further, we reminisce about the time when the water was pure, the touch of grass under our feet when we walk on it, adding 2-3 Tulsi leaves in our morning cup of tea while sitting outside feeling the cool breeze running past our hair and reading the morning newspaper complaining how the government is not taking any action to curb the farmer suicides. And thus, Organic Wellness was founded to bring back that very rich experience and a solution for all the farmers who are doing their best to feed 1.3 billion people of the country.

Organic Wellness was born as a creative solution with a unique balance sheet focusing equally on employees, farmers, environment and the company. The company intends to give back what it takes from the Mother Earth. The group is committed to a unique win-win business model for everyone in the chain starting from the Mother Earth, farmers, consumers, employees and our partners /associates. They blend India’s rich legacy of 5000 years with modern science to bring the best quality products for the benefit of end consumers. It will ensure employment in villages and direct benefit to over a thousand farmers.

Stay tuned for more details.
